DE VOLKSKEUKEN WITH GOOD FOOD

On the evening of Friday, October 2, Verhalenhuis Belvédère is hosting the Volkskeuken.
We will gather around the table to share stories about our food, its preparation, and the resilience of communities.

This event is inspired by the Good Food exhibition at the Nederlands Fotomuseum, which documents the journey of photographer Ruud Sies and creative producer Hanneke van Hintum.
During this Volkskeuken evening, photographer Ruud Sies will introduce you to the lives of several agri-chefs farmers who are also chefs. Who are they? What do they do, and what is the significance of their work? We will meet them through images and short videos set in their own environments.
The program will also highlight local initiatives and food networks in Rotterdam and the surrounding region.

Above all, we will share a three-course meal prepared in the Verhalenhuis Belvédère Volkskeuken.

De Volkskeuken

De Volkskeuken is a community-gathering program hosted by Verhalenhuis Belvédère in Katendrecht, where food and personal stories come together. For each edition, a guest chef from Rotterdam prepares a favorite meal linked to their heritage, family history, or life experiences, while visitors dine together at the table. In this way, De Volkskeuken offers a welcoming and accessible space for the diverse communities, backgrounds, and traditions that enrich Rotterdam. The program centers on connection, identity, and heritage: food serves as a starting point for conversation and for learning about one another’s histories. De Volkskeuken has been running since 2010.
